But most of the time, we spend a lot of money on purchasing expensive ornaments, but we really don’t pay attention on its cleaning and maintenance. Proper cleaning is much more vital in case of antique jewelry, as they as more exclusive than ordinary jewelry. The more they are clean, the more they will appeal.
Special care should be taken while cleaning antique jewelry, as use of any harsh chemical would permanently damage the stones giving them a dull look. However if the following simple steps are followed, cleaning could be easier and attractive.
1) Before starting the cleaning process one should be careful not to wash directly in the sink as your jewelry might get lost forever. Always use a bowl for this purpose.
2) Then it should be made sure that the product you choose for cleaning must not contain alcohol, ammonia or acid.
3) Always wipe away the dust from the ornaments with the help of a soft brush.
4) The solution used for cleaning should not directly be sprayed on the ornament; rather it should be poured on a soft clean piece of cloth and then rubbed on the jewelry.
5) Cleaning solution should be used in small amount; just enough to damp without leaving the moisture behind.
6) Soap water should be avoided, as it will leave deposit on the stones making them look dull and pale.
7) Look carefully if there are any loose stones or pearls then get them tightened first from a jeweler.
8) Always wipe away the dust from the ornaments with the help of a soft toothbrush.
9) Always remember to dry up your jewelry before putting it away. As moisture is the greatest foe of jewelry. It harms the ornaments more than the dirt itself.
10) In the end use a polishing cloth to give your jewelry shine and a final look.

1) Always keep your jewelry in a lined box, preferably with a soft cloth or velvet.
2) Use separate boxes for different for ornaments as metal of one ornament could damage the surface of other diamonds and pearls.
3) Always keep your jewelry away from deodorants, perfumes and hair sprays.
4) Never wear your expensive jewelry while gardening or doing household chores.
5) Avoid putting on jewelry during swimming, as chlorine present in the water is likely to affect the shiny surface of the ornaments.
