Look to the east, look to the west….but you will see only one craze “the size zero craze”. Women both old and young are starving themselves to death to fit in to size zero clothes. The runways are filled with malnutritioned models showcasing skinny pants collections, officewear and formal wear that is small(super petite) enough to fit schoolgoing girls.

Cases of Anorexia, Bulimia, etc seem to be increasing day by day. This latest mania has been triggered by not only the runway models but also by the Hollywood Celebs who are looking gaunt and thinner than ever. Therefore when celebs who are not merely celebs ,but  fashion icons and idols for some, are going after the tiny frame mania then why wouldn’t an ordinary women on the street do the same.

Fashion houses are designing  smaller and more and more petite dresses putting a lot of pressure on women to drop even there healthy weight to fit into clothes that are in line with the latest trends. Drugstore owner are minting money by playing on this weakness on the part of women and flooding the market with diet pill some will disastrous implications. Drugs such as “size 0 pill “seems to be selling the most all across the USA.

The craze is not limited to the west but is gripping Asian youth too…the primary culprit in this being the glamorous bollywood celebrities.Actreses like Karina Kapoor seem to be topping the list in the lust for size zero.

It should be remembered that it is not merely a craze to look good but if taken too far, can lead to death. The size zero debate got sparked when a model named, Luisel Ramos died on the catwalk in Uruguay fashionweek2006, after starving for several days in a row. Fearful that more models across the world might pursue this deadly fasting to shed weight and become famous on the ramp, designers have started to abandon stick thin models on the ramp and are promoting a culture of healthy eating in the models they signup. A number of Hollywood celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Maria carey,Juliane Moore, etc have expressed serious concerns against this trend aswell and are advocating that there is nothing more beautiful than a healthy, glowing and a balanced figured woman who is proud of the way she looks and knows how to carry herself in a fashionable way.
