WE have all learnt that chewing with the mouth open is a big no-no, but when it comes to determining which fork to use and where to locate the bread plate, things become tricky. With dinner parties all the rage ,staying stress and embarrassment free means having these etiquettes basics under your belt. 1. IF your napkin I not stuffed into your water goblet or folded in the middle of your plate then it’s on the left of your setting. 2. AS soon as you sit down place your napkin in your lap. Remember its not, flag or bib! A napkin is basically for catching stray crumbs and blotting your lips and fingers before you take a drink. 3. IT is no less than a sin to dissect your food to pick out minor ingredients you dislike. 4. Lunging for salt or a dish that is nowhere near you should be avoided.Therfore if you want something that is not within your reach, ask to have it passed. Not is it only rude to stick your arm in front of someone but you also risk knocking over glasses or brushing a sleeve into your or someone else’slate. also when passing, place the item on the table; never pass hand to hand. 5. Wens having a bowl of soup ladle the liquid away from you so that any spillage ends up on the table not on your dress. Also don’t put the entire spoon in your mouth; tilt it and sip it SILENTLY. 6. Remember when you are finished with your food place your utensils side by side at 6o’clock and 7. If you step away from the table midmeal, leave the napkin on your chair ,with a simple “excuse me”. 8. IF you are invited for a luch, dinner or tea somewhere NEVER go empty handed to the host’s house. If you are tight on a budget you can always go for something inexpensive yet personal like homade cookies, cakes, chocolates , or a food native to where you are from. Therefore not only having good manners is polite but it also puts the other guests at ease and makes every event more enjoyable since you can relax and not worry about your etiquettes. PLUS it’s a good practice for when you are eating with people you need to impress like a boss, a new guy or your boyfriends/girlfriend’s parents! |
